I’m sure everyone has those times where they are determined to successfully do something that for some reason feels like you failed. Or even sit and do something but your not getting anywhere. Spinning your wheels you attempt to try again.
That was my problem yesterday. I started putting my heart and soul into bible study Mid-June of this year. Not very long ago. And I had found a Christian site that really made the 5x5x5 study method a great thing, and I approached it thinking it would be a cake walk following their guidelines. Hence this post. I’ve been doing it, not feeling it and I’m not learning anything. Too much information at once for five days a week. “Total Scripture Overload”. Although some of Mark if you gave me a title reference I’d might be able to scantly tell you what its about.
Out of desperation and the push I felt to actually learn and apply scripture into my daily life, have it mean something and be closer to God.. I did some searching of Christian women’s blogs and found a couple of gems. But one really stood out and I found it was a calm, informative blog and I never felt pressured. There is a lot to be said about a person who can inform, give resources and actually teach someone without making you feel like your taking your SATs.
She offers up the S.O.A.P. method [S – Scripture / O – Observation / A – Application / P – Prayer] of bible study and I can implement it into my prayer journal without losing the meaning of studying the bible and tracking prayers and other things that I find important with my plans, priorities and still have time to do other things, without the sudden need to check the bible scripture I studied that morning. I completely felt like an idiot when someone asked me what I studied just two hours before and what verse stood out to me. Embarrassing and it’s a reality check so I’ve dropped the 5x5x5 plan method and adopted permanently the S.O.A.P. method. To find out more about this uncomplicated, realistic and easy-peasy way of studying scriptures you might want to check out The Modern Mary.
Ally has much more than just a bible study plan. She has a good amount of information, some resources for your Christian Blog and she has some very good reads of other tidbits to help the Christian Woman | Wife | Mother in this modern world. Check her blog out if nothing but out of total curiosity! I would be still scratching my head, looking up to heaven and asking God what he thinks of my mess, if it wasn’t for Ally and her blog The Modern Mary. Which by the way when I just saw the title I was really wondering if it was a Christian blog or a 1940-1950’s Perfect Wife/Woman thing like the books they had back then. Ally almost scared me!
Hope you have a blessed day!
